In The Weeks Ahead

I just wanted to take a moment to share how excited I am about the weeks ahead.

I am packing to head to New York City for the week for the Social Media Week conference and I can’t wait to meet other folks in the industry who are doing innovative work using social media. It is also the first time I am attending and I am just glad to be working at an institution that sees the worth in the work I do.

Then on Saturday I’m returning to Rutgers University for the Mark Conference and I’m excited to be among those presenting. Last year when I attended the conference, I turned to Trey and said, “I need to present at this conference next year.” Now I’m going to speak to a crowd of folks about why love is an act of leadership.

In a few weeks I will be heading off to Las Vegas for the Brown Boi Project leadership retreat! I didn’t think I would even get past the first round of the selection process, let alone get picked to be part of the cohort. So grateful for Cole and the BBP team for deciding to invest in me. I am looking forward to learning from my fellow activists / community organizers.

A couple of weeks after that I return to the NELGBTC to present and I’m excited to visit SUNY Albany for the first time.

2015 is starting off on such a positive note and I am so thankful. I grew up always knowing I loved writing and wanted to be a storyteller. However, I could not have imagined all that has happened to me in the last few years.

A lot of folks have been asking me how I got started or what they can do to jumpstart their own journey, I tell them I believed in my dreams. That they need to believe in the beauty of their dreams and work as hard as they can. It’s not always easy but it is always worth it.
