Self-Care: Taking Time To Breathe

For many of us, we tend to put ourselves last on our list of things that require our care and affection.

The last couple of weeks have been beyond stressful and a reminder that life is too short to live it stressed out. So for the next few days I am going to disconnect, not check emails, and spend my time out of town and out of touch with social media.

Going to lay on a bed, read my books, write in my journal, and take some time to breathe.

I want to encourage you all to make some time to breathe in your own lives and to take better care of yourself. This work we do, the work that aims to make our communities better, it can be taxing on the mind, body, and spirit. It’s okay to take some time off, it’s okay to say, “hey…I’m tired. I need a moment to recollect myself.”

It doesn’t make you self-centered or selfish, it makes you the person who meets yourself with the same intention of care and empathy as you do to others in need. I know some people think that being available 24/7 is the only way to accomplish the never-ending to-do list but I’ve learned quickly that it isn’t.
